Limit your horses grass consumption whilst still allowing them to freely roam in the paddock through the use of a muzzle. 

A grazing muzzle is designed to fit over the horse’s nose and mouth and is secured via a strap that sits around their head, behind their ears. Muzzles are usually made of a nylon type material and prevent them from over-consuming grass or hay. They still allow the horse to breathe and drink as normal. 

Horse grazing muzzles are typically used on horses and ponies that have a history of laminitis. Laminitis is caused by overconsumption of the sugar which is held in grasses and by wearing a muzzle, horses are limited in their ability to eat as much. 

Horses that are wearing a muzzle should be closely monitored to ensure that they are still able to eat, drink and breathe as normal and to make sure that the muzzle doesn’t come loose or move. Ensure that you clean your horses grazing muzzle regularly, to make sure that the amount of bacteria that builds up is kept to a minimum.
